Solar Panel Instruction Book

You need a reliable solar panel instruction book because you've decided to install solar panels in your home to produce free electricity. It really isn't that difficult of a project, and you can even make your own panels from inexpensive solar cells if you want to save even more money.

What do you need to get started?

· Ordinary household tools- cordless drill, saws, wrenches and maybe a vise.

· A reliable helper

· The right location

· And a detailed solar panel instruction book

Let's start with the right location. As you probably know solar panels produce electricity from the sun, so it follows that your panels should be placed in a location that receives as much sun as possible. Even just a little bit of shade will drastically reduce the power produced by your system.
Some installers recommend putting them on the roof, but we have found that regular maintenance (cleaning mostly) is very difficult for most people on their roof. For that reason you should probably locate them in a sunny location on the ground.

The recommended solar panel instruction book shows you all kinds of mounting options and even solar tracking devices which follow the sun all day to maximize your power production. When you start to build your mounts you will need a good helper. It makes sense to have help as some of the pieces are awkward and of course the solar panels are kind of fragile.

You can use simple tools for the installation too- wire cutters, cordless drill etc. It really isn't complicated. Take the time to read the solar panel instruction book carefully as many options for installation are available. Wherever you decide to install your solar panels you should consider the option of making your own.

Obtaining solar cells (round or square discs that are the smaller components panels are made of) is not that hard and will cut your costs by up to 70%. That could be in the thousands of dollars for most household installations.

The first time you see the sun striking those homemade solar panels and starts producing free electricity for your home you won't be able to stop smiling. What a joy it is.

Did you know that electricity rates are expected to double by the end of next year?

Isn't it time you took action for your family to avert this possible cost increase? Let's get started.

The Solar Panels Instruction Book is the best place to start to begin producing your own free electricity and powering your home with renewable energy.

Our family has been living off the grid since last year, and loving every minute of it. After reading the solar panel instruction book, our job was a lot easier.

Living Green on a Budget, Easier Than You Think

Living green on a budget may seem impossible but believe me it is not. There are many things you can do which will be friendly to the environment.

Can everyone afford solar panels for their home or a hybrid car? Of course not but below I will list some things you can do to make a difference. Some will actually save you money.

Paper or Plastic

Neither, if you truly want to help the planet and keep the waste out of the landfills buy reusable shopping bags. Make sure they are made from organic products and not made in some country in a sweat shop. You can find them all over the internet at very affordable prices.. As they hold much more than the plastic bags you use in the grocery stores you only need 5-10 for your shopping.

The cost is around $2 each but they will last for several years.

Keep some in your vehicle at all times, then when you have to make a stop to pick something up while you are out you don't get stuck using the bags from the store.

I use them when I shop for clothes, groceries and anything I am purchasing that fits in a bag.

Small things make such a difference in our environment. I began living green on a budget many years ago, we barely made enough to live at that time but the money I wound up saving helped me as well as mother earth.

Re Cycle

The average person creates 4.5 pounds of trash per day. Think how much is going into the landfills if you are not re-cycling. You can re-cycle aluminum cans and foil, glass, but please rinse all containers before re-cycling, paper, a 4ft stack of recycled newspaper is equivalent to a 40 ft. fir tree, cardboard, such as cardboard boxes but if you have a cardboard container that pizza came in it can not be recycled as they can not use it if it is dirty. Take your packing peanuts to your local shipping store, most will take them from you happily. I re-use my aluminum foil over and over before recycling it, very easy to rinse and re-use. I also buy foods packaged in containers that I can use to put left overs in when possible as I can wash them and re-use them again and again.

Doing Laundry

My daughter has made this one of my biggest pet peeves. Washing machines were designed to wash more than one item of clothing. I have seen my daughter put in a pair of pants she wants to wear that night or a shirt. She always had more clothes she could have thrown in with it so the water she wasted was senseless.

When doing your laundry please wash a full load. Don't pack them so tight that your clothes will not come clean but just a full load.

Most of the time we can hang our clothes up after wearing them to wear again. I know teen agers especially are horrible about throwing them down to be washed even if they just put them on for a minute and decided to wear something else.

It was an uphill battle for me and my teens but I eventually taught them to be conservative for mother earth.

I now face it again with my 4 and 6 year old grand daughters that I raise. They already at their age try on 10 different things before deciding what to wear. The 6 year old now hangs stuff up as she can reach the closet and will also hang up her little sisters clothes. It has been much easier with these two.

Water Consumption

The average household uses 260+ gallons of water per day. That is a staggering number. You can save water and also save on your water bill by making some changes around your house.

Installing low flow shower heads, toilets and faucets you may spend a little money to begin with but these changes can cut up to 50% of your water consumption. Think of the money you will save on your water, electric and gas bills in the future.

Men, when you are shaving fill the sink with water for your use instead of running the water the whole time.

I know we all like to relax in a long hot bath and I still treat myself to that on occassion. Taking a shower will clean you much better than taking a bath where you sit and soak in the dirt you have just washed off yourself.

Making Your Trips Count

With the price of gasoline and the carbon emmissions from your vehicle it is only wise to make each trip count.

When I go out I make sure it is a good time for accomplishing many things. I run to the bank, pick up the dry cleaning, get my groceries and pick up the kids from school. Not only am I saving trips, when I get home I have someone to help me carry all that in.

Ride a bicycle when possible. My husband rides his bike to work as we live around 3 miles from his job. You see more and more people on bicycles these days.

Walk when you can. We live in walking distance of stores and restaurants so we walk a lot. If we do not have to have much from the store we walk to pick up a few things we need. Now we are doing something kind for the earth and getting exercise to boot.

Conserve on Your Electricity

As I live in Texas where the heat is unbearable in the summer I have to run my AC more than I would like to. However I do set it at 79 degrees.

If you live in a cooler climate then use ceiling fans with open windows to cool your home.

Turn off your lights when not needed. Buy energy efficient light bulbs. They are higher than the regular light bulbs you have been purchasing but they last for 5-10 years so the cost is minimal in reality. G E makes some great CFL bulbs. You will not only be helping the planet you will also find that you save on your electric bill. If everyone changed just one light bulb it would be equivalent to saving the carbon emissions on 800,000 cars. There are places to re-cycle these bulbs also.

Plug your small appliances, tv's and clocks into smart power strips. When not in use turn them off from the strip, this will save you a lot of money on your electric bill and is very healthy for the environment.

Hopefully you have found some good tips here and be sure to check back often as I will be adding more daily. Have a great day and remember to Re-Use Reduce and Re-Cycle always.

Home Security First Alert Night Vision Cameras - Are You Safe?

A night vision security camera allows one to see in the total dark. This type of surveillance device is very popular in systems where improved security at night time is required. Many a night vision security camera comes with IR illuminators. Heat, as in infrared energy, is emitted from every living organism. Humans with their body temperature of ninety-three degrees Fahrenheit emit infrared energy with a wavelength of nine to ten micrometers. IR illuminators are calibrated to pick up on any wavelength from eight to twelve micrometers. This feature, known as thermal imaging when the camera transmits those differences in IR wavelength as an image, further enhances the efficiency of this type of camera.

Other types of night vision security camera use an image enhancement procedure to convey images, whereby light emitted at a higher frequency than the IR wavelength is used. This type of process transmits as the green-colored images of night vision technology. The night vision security camera provides either black and white or color images. On some models, the color switches to black and white at night. Usually connected using an AC cord, some are even wireless. Presented in a wide range of styles and designs and in colors like black aluminum or white casing, there is a model for every taste and purpose. Usually weather proof, there are cameras for outdoor or indoor use. Some can even be hidden in smaller devices.

In total darkness, the night vision security camera usually provides high resolution black and white images. Some of the cameras come with light sensors and night vision leds, switching on automatically as the light pattern changes. Night vision usually covers for up to fifty feet, though the best operating range is between twenty-five to thirty-five feet. The operating temperature range is between minus ten degrees Celsius and fifty degrees Celsius.

The night vision security camera can also be used for other tasks around the house. It can be used to keep an eye on the car in the garage or on the pool, and can even be used to keep an eye on the baby or children without having to switch on the lights.

Vitamin Deficiency Epidemic in the United States

In the 21st century, in one of the most developed nations in the world, we have a vitamin deficiency of epidemic proportions. How is this possible, you may ask. We are extremely well fed, many of us take multi-vitamins, we drink our milk and eat our vegetables (most of the time). Furthermore, the US government has recommended daily allowances for vitamins that many of us try to get every day. How could we possibly be deficient in a vitamin?

Despite the efforts of the government and food science industries to make sure we have plenty of everything, studies show that 40-60% of the entire US population is deficient in vitamin D.

Historically, vitamin D deficiency resulted in rickets. Scientists determined the minimum amount of vitamin D and the government set the US Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA). Vitamin D was added to milk so the average child drinking the amount of milk recommended by the average pediatrician was guaranteed to get enough of the vitamin to prevent rickets, and we all were to live happily ever after.

It turns out Vitamin D is a critical nutrient for preventive maintenance of all of our body tissues, and recent research has shown the amount needed is far higher than the current US RDA.** Allowing your body to be deficient in vitamin D is like never changing the oil in your car. It runs just fine for a while, and then things simply begin to break down. Research has linked low levels of vitamin D to colorectal cancer, ovarian cancer, breast cancer, kidney cancer, type I and II diabetes, metabolic syndrome, melanoma, cardiovascular diseases (including heart attack, stroke and high blood pressure), periodontal disease, all autoimmune disorders, pre-eclampsia, difficult birthing, autism, and other diseases.** Let's be clear: low vitamin D does not CAUSE these diseases, but studies overwhelmingly show that people with these diseases have low serum (blood) levels of vitamin D, and that when the vitamin D level is brought into a normal range the prognosis is often 50% (or more) better than when the vitamin D level remains low.

How did we get so deficient? There are few dietary sources of vitamin D, including cod liver oil, egg yolks, butter, liver, oily fish, some fortified breakfast cereals, and milk. We tend to avoid strongly-flavored fishy foods in this culture, and we tend to minimize consumption of eggs and butter to lower our cholesterol. Vitamin D is manufactured in the skin from cholesterol, and requires Ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation for its synthesis. With the increased use of high SPF sunscreens (which completely block UVB radiation) and the increased use of cholesterol-lowering medication, we have severely limited our ability to manufacture vitamin D. Even without sunscreen, most of the US is far enough north of the equator that we receive limited amounts of UVB during most of the year. It is virtually impossible to get enough UVB to make vitamin D during the winter if you are north of the 35th parallel (think Atlanta or San Diego).

The US RDA for vitamin D is 400IU/day. Remember, the RDA for any nutrient is the MINIMUM amount required to prevent known deficiency disease, NOT the optimal amount needed for health. For years, the only known vitamin D deficiency disease has been rickets, and this amount of vitamin D is sufficient to prevent rickets. However, the latest research shows that for the disease prevention effect of vitamin D to be present, the blood level needs to be in the 60-80ng/ml range, more than double the current low end of the "normal" laboratory range for this nutrient.** To keep your blood vitamin D at this level requires 2000-2400IU/day from all sources for adults, 2000IU/day for children under 12, and 1000-1800IU/day for infants less than 1 year.

Vitamin D is fat soluble, so can't you get too much of it? The answer is yes, but you need a lot. Studies have demonstrated no toxicity with supplementation of vitamin D at levels as high as 20,000IU per day, so the levels recommended are well below the toxic dose for this vitamin.**

So, how do you get 2000IU of vitamin D per day? Most milk in the US has vitamin D added to it, so if you drink milk you are getting some vitamin D. 10-15 minutes of sun exposure on the arms and legs during the peak hours for UVB radiation (10am-2pm), without sunscreen, allows your body to make about half the vitamin D it needs. However, if you live north of the 35th parallel you will be unable to get enough UVB exposure to make enough vitamin D during much of the year. The good news is that vitamin D supplements exist and are relatively inexpensive. I recommend starting with 1000IU per day in a supplement for most people. If you don't drink milk and rarely get out in the sun, 2000-2500IU per day would be appropriate. Therapeutic doses can be much higher, and require periodic monitoring of your blood levels to make sure you don't overdose.

It is easy to test for vitamin D deficiency with a simple blood test which can be ordered by most health care providers. You can also be tested through D Action (unless you live in the State of NY!), an advocacy group with the goal of eliminating vitamin D deficiency in the world. You can sign up to participate in the D Action research project at http://www.grassrootshealth.org. $30 and completion of a survey provides you with a vitamin D test, materials to send the test for processing, and a copy of the results.

Top 10 Electric Guitars

Ever since the guitar turned electric in 1931 rock stars have been twisting, bending and distorting the traditional sounds of the guitar to create unique master pieces that remain legendary. Rock and roll would never be if it weren't for the electric guitar. The first electric guitar was made in 1931 by the Rickenbacker company and has seen little change of the basic concepts other than the addition of solid state electronics.

Tons of different electric guitars have been introduced from countless guitar companies, but there remains a top few that have been used again and again since rock and roll arrived in the early 1950s. Below are the top 10 electric guitars of the past 50 or so years tha have became legandary.

10. BC Rich Warlock - An incredibly unusual shape introduced in the 1970s looks and sounds like its name. B.C Rich was a top choice and popularized by heavy metal bands in the 1980s like Megadeth, Danzig, Warrant and Poison just to name a few.

9. Gibson SG - The SG (solid guitar) created in 1961 was popularized by the Australian based heavy metal band, AC/DC and Angus Young's top electric guitar for sure.

8. Gibson Explorer - The airplane-looking shape was also a top favorite for heavy metal guitarists. The shape was so popular that it spawned numerous custom cloned from companies such as ESP. James Hetfield of Metallica was regularly on display with this top guitar.

7. Danelectro - One of the most simple, yet flashy designs, the Danelectro was pretty and sported a cylindrical pick-up nicknamed the "lipstick." Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin fame made this his top choice in the last few years of the band's existence.

6. Gibson SG Doubleneck - One of the strangest looking guitars, but one of the most versitile. What was tops about this guitar was that the top guitar was a twelve string and the bottom a six. This allowed for cool variations in tone and feel without the need of switching guitars during a song.

5.Gibson Flying- V - A top rock guitar for musicians who want to make a statement. Though awkward to play in a sitting position (arguable because you can't rock out sitting down), this guitar was actually a favorite of Jimi Hendrix.

4. Rickenbacker 425, 360/12 - There is no mistaking the sound of a Rickenbacker because of is resonating tone of the 12 strings. Made famous in rock and roll by George Harrison and John Lennon, this later became a top pick for bands finding a more melodic yet harmonic electric tone. Since then, bands ranging from the Byrds to R.E.M. also consider this a top pick and a staple of their unique sound.

3.Fender Telecaster - Another uniquely toned guitar made famous by Jimmy Page, this interesting single-coil pickup sound machine also sported a special "bending" device hooked to the top string that can be manipulated by pulling down on the guitar strap.

2. Fender Stratocaster - You cannot mistake the hollow, yet clear and bright sound of a Fender Stratocaster. It is amazing that a guitar this old has remained unchanged and yet still delivers the same power that Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton made famous back in the 60s. This is arguably the top choice of all Chicago-style blues players.

1. Gibson Les Paul Standard - Sexy, standard and unchanged, this top pick delivers the power and punch that has been heard by the top rock and roll bands in history. Sporting dual humbucker pickups, this guitar's sounds is like that of a 1960's muscle car. From metal, to hard rock, to punk and funk, the Les Paul Standard is arguably the most popular electric guitar in history.

Although it is nearly impossible to list these top electric guitars in any order, one can safely say that purchasing and playing any guitar on this list will certainly put a smile on your face and at the same time, conjr up fantasies of being on stage with your favorite bands. TonyRocks.com has continued this list but also reviews a number of newer guitars that didn't make it to this top list. Plus you'll be amazed at some of the guitar shreding videos posted by Paul Gilbert, famous for his Ibanez.
